Vicki Lawrence & Mama: A Two Woman Show, Nov. 4 - 5 The Oak Ridge Boys Theatre 464 Hwy 248
Who's your Mama? For generations of TV viewers, the answer is Vicki Lawrence. Emmy Award-winning actress Vicki Lawrence is playing in Branson, and she's bringing Mama with her. Mama, of course, is the outrageously hilarious character she introduced to the world during the “Family” sketches on “The Carol Burnett Show” and then spun successfully into the sitcom, “Mama's Family,” as buxom, blue-haired, sharp-tongued, 65-year-old widow Thelma Harper.
Since Mama can be a tough act to follow, Lawrence allows herself the luxury of going first in the 90-minute show as she simply plays herself and chats to the crowd about her career, the Burnett TV show,” her No. 1 hit song, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” and her gig as Miley Cyrus's granny on “Hannah Montana” and other topics. Then she tells the stories of her life, how she got started and how Mama came to be. She shows a bunch of outtakes from 'Mama's Family,' and then Mama comes out. When Mama struts onstage is when hilarity runs amuck, because no one but Mama knows what Mama is going to say.
Ask the actress-singer-comedian what she enjoys best about touring with her show, and she will answer, “The audience.”
